Brad’s 2009 Big 12 Conference Predictions
Posted by deaconcat08 on August 17, 2009
As I continue, it should also be noted that I am posting these in order of conference strength (starting out with the SEC and ending up with the Sun Belt)
Big 12 North
1. Kansas (9)- In a weak Big 12 North, Todd Ressing and Co. will put up lots of points and win lots of games. Might even beat OU or TX.
2. Nebraska (22)- Strangely enough, 3 preseason publications and myself all rankined this team as # 22 in the nation. Team could be worse if “pink shirt” D doesn’t step up.
3. Colorado (45)- Cody Hawkins will have to lead a high-scoring offense with only 4 R.S. coming back on the other side of the ball. Weak Big 12 North will bring bowl eligibility.
4. Missouri (48)- Tigers lost a ton on offense, defense, and in the coaching staff after the disappointing ’08 season. Still expect Mizzou to find a way to make a bowl.
5. Kansas State (68)- This Bill Snyder experiment should be interesting. Not sure if I ever recall a retired coach coming back to coach his old team, but I’m predicting good results.
6. Iowa State (78)- Sad to see this team have to start from scratch all over again after just picking up Chizik. Don’t see them beating any of the 10 BCS schools on their schedule.
Big 12 South
1. Texas (3)- Big 12 South will once again be loaded meaning that there is a great chance we’ll be hearing another one-loss Big 12 Champ griping about BCS Title snub.
2. Oklahoma (4)- See Above. Also, even though Bradford and Murray will be dominant, inexperienced offensive line may be an issue.
3. Oklahoma State (6)- Fills the role of Texas Tech as the 3rd Big 12 South powerhouse. Might actually split games against OK and TX but I envision another loss along the way.
4. Texas Tech (20)- No longer a title contender, but they’ll still be the Texas Tech we all know and love. Lots of points, bad defense, great soundbites, and solid results.
5. Baylor (58)- BU has its best team in over a decade with one of the best QBs in the nation. Unfortunately, there are 4 teams/QBs who are better in their very own division
6. Texas A & M (75)- Never was too impressed with the rushed hire of Mike Sherman. Team couldn’t win a game in their division in ’08, and I’m calling for a repeat performance.
Predicted Champion: Texas
