Week 2 Upset Picks

Posted by deaconcat08 on September 8, 2009

I don’t meant to brag (well yes I do, actually), but I did predict 5 out of 7 upsets correctly last week, not to mention a major scare in my longshot game.  We’ll see if I can keep it up this week.  Here are upsets that I could see happening this weekend.  These are ordered from smallest underdog to largest, and the value in each parentheses represents the number of points by which each team is currently an underdog according to the World Sports Exchange

Western Michigan (+1.0) vs. Indiana- I know the Broncos looked horrible against the Wolverines, but Indiana is possibly the worst BCS team in the country.

Stanford (+2.0) vs. Wake Forest- Wake looked horrible last week, and I think the Cardinal are better overall than Baylor.

Washington State (+2.0) vs. Hawaii- Now that UW looks much improved,  Wazzou’s next 2 games (vs. Hawaii and SMU) are probably there only chances to get wins this year.  I don’t think they’ll blow this opportunity at home.

Duke (+2.0) vs. Army- I know they got stomped by Richmond, but Cutcliffe is too good of a coach to not have this team ready for this game.

North Texas (+3.0) vs. Ohio- I was stunned at how good the Mean Green looked good last week.  I think Dodge’s spread offense may finally catch on with his son at QB.  If so, this would be quite the story.

Clemson (+4.5) vs. Georgia Tech- Clemson is one of my surprise teams this year, and GT I think we’ll disappoint.  We’ll find out a lot on Thursday.

Air Force (+4.5) vs. Minnesota- The Gophers looked pretty bad against the Cuse.  If the Gophers couldn’t stop a bad basketball player posing as a football player, Air Force’s tricky offense may give them all kinds of trouble.

South Carolina (+7.5) vs. Georgia- I’ve been calling this upset for a long time now.  We’ll see if it hits.

Fresno State (+8.5) vs. Wisconsin- The Bulldogs seem to always play well against big-time BCS opponents.

Longshot of the Week: Vanderbilt (+14.5) vs. LSU- If LSU doesn’t play better than they did last week, the Dores’ disciplined schemes could setup an upset.
