I got back on track with my picks last week by posting a solid winning record. I’m now 12 games above .500 for the year and I’m looking to improve on that this week. Unfortunately, this college football week is not only full of meaningless games its also full of spreads which very enticing. There are a [...]

Finally, we have a major shakeup at the top of the CFRA rankings. The CFRA has reversed the BCS and AP top 3 ranking Texas at 1, Bama at 2, and Florida at 3. Even more surprising is the fact that TCU has garnered two first-place votes making the CFRA the first major poll this season to give first-place votes to a non-BCS team. [...]

Good Thoughts:
1. TCU- After watching last Saturday’s Fort Worth beatdown, I can say without hesitation that TCU is the best college football team in the country. I have never in my life seen a top 20 team dominated like Utah was on Saturady night. The 27-point margin of victory was much smaller than it could have [...]

I have now included every team that has yet to be declared either bowl eligible or ineligible in this analysis. Please note that these odds only represent the chances that a particular team will get enough wins to be eligible to receive a bowl bid. They do not represent the odds a team has in actually receiving [...]

Among my several week-in-review columns that I’m posting tonight, I’d like to give a brief analysis of each conference’s conference championship race. Bold teams have already clinched their division. Italicized divisions are the probable champions at this point in time.
ACC Atlantic- Clemson (all they need to do is beat UVA at next week, and they’ll [...]

I hate to brag, but I pulled a Jimmy “the Greek” last week and nailed 6 out of 7 of my upset picks including my double-digit longshot pick in Navy. The Greek loved picking the underdogs, and in honor of his documentary that aired last night on ESPN (it was very good by the way), I will try [...]

I had mixed results last week, as my upset predictions were dead-on but my picks against the spread were quite mediocre (4-6). I still have a great overall record for the year (56-44), but hopefully I’m not experiencing a South Carolina-like late season downfall. At any rate, this week I’m fairly confident I’ll come away with a winning record [...]

There are several interesting developments in this week’s CFRA poll. First of all, the association has pretty much found a solution for the controversy surrounding the Boise-TCU-Cincy battle for spots 4-6 in the polls, and that is to create a virtual tie between the 3 teams. As you will see, TCU, Boise, and Cincy are all separated [...]

Good Thoughts:
1. Next week’s conference title games- While many conference/division titles have already been decided or are virtually over (Clemson in ACC, Florida and Bama in SEC, Texas in Big 12 South), it is nice to see that we have some de facto conference championship/division championship games next week. Ohio State/Iowa will decide the Big 10 [...]

Thought I’d create a column for the next few weeks analyzing the bowl bubble and determining each team’s chances of playing postseason college football. Please note that these odds only represent the chances that a particular team will get enough wins to be eligible to receive a bowl bid. They do not represent the odds a [...]

I wasn’t exactly on fire in my picking of upsets last week, as only 2 of 6 hit. However, last week was a miserable week for underdogs, and unfortunately for this column and all those who like watching upsets, this week looks to be more the same. There a 2 or 3 dogs I really [...]

First of all, can you believe we are already in Week 10 of the college football season? This year has really flown by. At any rate, I was bound to have one mediocre/bad week picking games and on Saturday it finally happened. Even though 4-6 isn’t that bad of a week, it was the first time [...]

It looks like the CFRA was correct in its lack of respect for USC. While all other major rankings systems had USC in the top 5, ranked ahead many of the current unbeatens, the CFRA kept them below Boise, Cincy, and TCU. The association should feel vindicated this weekend, as Southern Cal got tore up by Oregon. [...]

Good Thoughts:
1. Coaches Poll- Finally, we see some common sense at the top of both the Coaches’ Poll this week. This has got to be the first time in several years, if not ever, that five or more unbeaten teams all ranked consecutively at the top of the poll. There is not the usual overrated 1-loss [...]
