First Round NCAA Tournament Picks

Posted by deaconcat08 on March 15, 2010

Without giving too much away about the games I’ve picked in my bracket, here are  ten recommended lines for this weekend’s first round games.  These spreads are based on the current lines according to the World Sports Exchange, and they are ordered from most confident to least confident.

Wofford (+9.0) vs. Wisconsin- I absolutely love this line!  These are two scrappy white boy teams who are going to get after it and play a tight, low-scoring  ball game.

Texas (-4.0) vs. Wake Forest- I am flying down to New Orleans to be in attendance for this game, so I’m hoping and praying that Wake pulls off the upset.  However, based on how badly the Deacs have played in the last 6 and how poorly they typically play in the Big Dance, then I will be surprised if Wake keeps it close.

Butler (-2.5) vs. UTEP- This may be a trendy upset pick, but keep in mind that the lone victory UTEP has against a tourney team is over 13th-seeded Houston and they lose to them on two other occasions.

Marquette (-1.5) vs. Washinton- Another trendy upset pick, but I’ll take Big East mediocrity over Pac-10 mediocrity any day of the week… including this weekend.

Louisville (+1.0) vs. California- See comment above.

Tennessee (-3.0) vs. San Diego State- I think the Vols are better than people are giving them credit for right now.

Richmond (-1.5) vs. Saint Mary’s- Spiders should win this one and give Nova all they can handle on Saturday.

Notre Dame (-2.0) vs. Old Dominion- ODU has been overrated all year, and now the Irish get the chance to expose that.

UNLV (Pick) vs. Northern Iowa- See comment above and replace ODU with NIU.

Texas A & M (-2.5) vs. Utah State- The difference in the Battle of the Aggies will be A & M’s athleticism, which will ovewhelm Utah State.
