Week 5 College Football Upsets to Watch Out For

Posted by deaconcat08 on 29th September 2010

In addition to my miserable performance with my 10 weekly picks against the spread last Saturday, I didn’t do too hot in picking potential upsets either.  Not a single one of the seven underdogs I offered were able to pull out a victory, and my double-digit longshot got manhandled by a vastly superior opponent.  Still, to be fair, there weren’t [...]

Week 5 College Football Picks

Posted by deaconcat08 on 28th September 2010

After an astronomically good Week 3, it really shouldn’t come as a shock that my Week 4 picks were horrible.  That seems to be how it always works in the handicapping business.  Just when you think have Vegas and the sportsbooks all figured out, you go out and have a horrible performance.  At least my Saturday wasn’t as bad as [...]

Good Thoughts/Bad Thoughts from College Football Week 4

Posted by deaconcat08 on 26th September 2010

Good Thoughts: 1.  The Packs of Wolves- Both FBS Wolfpacks, Nevada and NC State, pulled off impressive victories this week to stay unbeaten and get into the AP top 25.  This is NC State’s first entrance into the top 25 since 2003 and Nevada’s since, get this, 1948!!!  NC State is starting to resemble the 2006 Wake [...]

Week 4 College Football Upsets to Watch Out For

Posted by deaconcat08 on 21st September 2010

In addition to my great success with my picks of the week last week, I also did a pretty good job forecasting some upsets.  Three of my seven upsets to watch out for hit, and my longshot upset pick of the week won with ease as Vandy throttled Ole Miss on the road.  I think we will [...]

Week 4 College Football Picks

Posted by deaconcat08 on 21st September 2010

I’ll have to check my records, but I’m pretty sure that last week was my best college football handicapping week of all-time.  I posted an astonishing 9-1 record  including another 5-0 mark for my top 5 picks!  That brings my overall record to 14-1 for my five most confident picks of the week!  In fact, the one [...]

Good Thoughts/Bad Thoughts from College Football Week 3

Posted by deaconcat08 on 21st September 2010

Sorry for the lengthy delay in sending out this weekly column, but I’ve been too busy celebrating my good thought # 1 and mourning my bad thought # 1. Good Thoughts: 1.  My week 3 picks- I admit that as a self-promoted college football handicapper I tend to excessively brag about the success of my [...]

Week 3 College Football Researchers Association (CFRA) Poll

Posted by deaconcat08 on 20th September 2010

There aren’t too many changes from last week’s poll to this week’s.  In fact,  the only modifications to the top 10 are that Oregon and Arkansas each jumped up two spots this week.  Also, we have our first tie in several weeks as both OSUs (Oklahoma State and Oregon State) share the 24 spot.  Furthermore, there were two [...]

Week 3 Upsets to Watch Out For

Posted by deaconcat08 on 16th September 2010

After a weak start to the season, the upsets start flowing in week 2 and I did a pretty good job predicting them.  I hit 3 of my 6 upset picks last week, and my longshot lost a heartbreaker as a 13.5 point underdog.  Unfortunately, like this first 2 weeks, this is a week where I generally see [...]

Week 3 College Football Picks

Posted by deaconcat08 on 16th September 2010

Overall, I was only 5-5 last week, but if you have been paying attention to my confidence rankings, you’ll see that my performance was a lot better than that.  I was actually 4-1 in my top 5 picks and once again hit my lock of the week (Rice against North Texas).  That brings my overall record for my top 5 picks to 9-1 this [...]

Good Thoughts/Bad Thoughts from College Football Week 2

Posted by deaconcat08 on 12th September 2010

Good Thoughts: 1.  Rookie Quarterbacks- By “rookie” I don’t necessarily mean freshman.  I mean guys who are in their first full season as a starter.  And while tradtionally transitioning quarterbacks is a grueling process, several new guys are stepping in and looking as good, if not better, than their predecessors.  John Brantley of Florida (at least in Week 2),  Denard [...]

Week 2 College Football Upsets to Watch Out For

Posted by deaconcat08 on 8th September 2010

I didn’t hit many upset picks last week because there weren’t many upsets in games involving two Divison 1-A teams.  To be honest with you, I’m not sure things will be much different on Saturday, but if they are, here are the upsets to watch out for.  These are ordered from smallest underdog to largest, and the value in [...]

Week 2 College Football Picks

Posted by deaconcat08 on 8th September 2010

I got off to a solid start this season posting a 6-4 mark, including a 5-0 record in my top 5 picks.  Pay particular attention to my confidence intervals in these columns, as I am generally a lot more accurate with my top 3 or 4 picks than I am my bottom 3 or 4.  [...]

Week 1 College Football Researchers Association (CFRA) Poll

Posted by deaconcat08 on 7th September 2010

This week’s poll results are ready to be published, and here a few quick observations.  First of all, we had the most ballots cast since the reinstitution of the CFRA poll last fall.  We’ve had several new voters join us in the past few weeks and overall 16 ballots were cast.  You will see that [...]
