Week 2 Football Upsets to Watch Out For

These are in order from least shocking to most shocking according to the current lines at the Caesars Sportsbook.

Nebraska (+3.0) at Colorado- 12:00– Primetime’s crew may have peaked last week, as I am not sure they have enough left in the tank to give that same kind of effort in week 2. Meanwhile, Nebraska will be hungry after their heartbreaking loss in the season opener.
Illinois (+3.0) at Kansas- (Fri) 7:30– The Jayhawks may find a way to win this one at home, but I think the Illini are the better team here overall.
Purdue (+3.0) at Virginia Tech- 12:00– Virginia and Virginia Tech were equally bad last year. In fact VT’s record was a half game worse, as they finished 3-8 and UVA ended up 3-7. However, for some reason, the Hokies are a 3 point home favorite against last year’s Big Ten West champions, and Virginia is a 6.5 point underdog to a Sun Belt squad. Someone explain that to me? Boilermakers are the better team here, and if they can navigate the noise in Lane Stadium, they should come out victorious.
UConn (+3.0) at Georgia State- 7:00– The Huskies looked a lot better than the Panthers when you look at each team’s opener last week.
Boise State (+3.5) vs. UCF- 7:00– The prolific Washington offense ended up scorching the Broncos last week, but Boise will be a different team at home, especially against a less explosive opponent.
Ohio (+3.5) at Florida Atlantic- 6:00– If Rourke ends up not playing in this one, then I won’t feel as good about it, but I think if Ohio’s QB is relatively healthy, they are more than capable of springing the road upset here.
Tampa Bay (+5.5) at Minnesota- (Sun) 1:00– I picked this upset in my NFL preview guide, so I need to stick with it right?
Virginia (+6.5) vs. James Madison- 12:00– see comment about about VT/Purdue game. I can’t believe an ACC team is a 6 point home dog against a Sun Belt team that is transitioning to FBS! If that doesn’t motivate the Cavs to pull the upset, then nothing will.
California (+6.5) vs. Auburn- 10:30– This line really surprised me as I thought Cal is the better team here who is playing at home. The Tigers also have to make a cross country road trip for a 10:45 PM Eastern time kickoff. I think there is quite a bit of SEC bias baked into this line.
UAB (+7.5) at Georgia Southern- 6:00– I know the Blazers aren’t probably as good this year as they have been over the past few seasons, but I still think they are talented enough to beat a middle of the road Sun Belt team.
Vanderbilt (+10.0) at Wake Forest- 11:00 AM– As a Wake fan, this game really scares me. The Deacs did not look good in their opener against Elon, and this Vandy program is on the rise under Coach Clark Lea. Expect a tight game that the Commodores may find a way to pull out.

Last week’s Upset Pick of the Week: Wyoming (+14.0) over Texas Tech (I actually had two double digit upset picks last week as Monroe over Army was also on my list!)
