Week 3 College Football (Against the Spread) Picks

These are in order from my most confident pick to least confident. Lines are based on the current spreads at the Caesars Sportsbook.

UAB (-2.5) vs. UL-Lafayette- 7:00– These teams were both at or near the top of their respective conferences just a couple of years ago and both are now in the decline. The Ragin’ Cajun regression has more rapid than UAB’s though, and as a result, I think the Blazers win this won comfortably.
Eastern Michigan (-7.0) vs. UMass- 2:00– I really can’t figure out why this line has dropped from 9 when it opened all the down to 7 like it stands now. UMass sprung that week 0 road upset against New Mexico State, but then they have looked as bad as they usually do in consecutive losses since then. Meanwhile, I think EMU will end up being one of the top teams in the MAC West this season. I expect a total blowout here.
Iowa State (-3.0) at Ohio- 12:00– The Cyclones will be set for a strong bounce back performance after the egg they laid against intrastate rival Iowa last Saturday. I know Iowa State has struggled the couple of seasons under Matt Campbell, but they are still good enough to beat a MAC team by more than field goal.
Clemson (-24.5) vs. Florida Atlantic- 8:00– The Tigers will be looking for a beatdown to boost their confidence heading into the Florida State game next Saturday.
Louisiana Tech (-4.5) vs. North Texas- 7:00– I was high on North Texas in the preseason, but they have not looked good in early season losses to Cal and FIU. And the Bulldogs of LA Tech are definitely more talented than the Panther team that upset the Mean Green last weekend.
Purdue (+2.5) vs. Syracuse- 7:30– Purdue will be out for revenge in this one after their heartbreaking road loss to the Cuse last year.
Louisville (-10.0) vs. Indiana- 12:00– I realize the Hoosiers played Ohio State well in week 1, but Louisville still has much more talent than this Indiana squad. AS a result, I think they’ll take this one by at least two touchdowns.
UTSA (-9.0) vs. Army- (Fri) 7:00– The Roadruners have not started the season how they’ve wanted with a loss to Houston and then a narrow escape against Texas State. This Army team is really in a straight of flux this season though, as they transition from the triple option to a shotgun based offense. Expect UTSA to roll here.
Georgia Southern (+19.5) at Wisconsin- 12:00– Clay Helton continues to impress at GSU as this team handily defeated a perennially sound UAB squad last Saturday. The Eagles were able to knock off a Big Ten West team on the road last season (Nebraska), and while I don’t think they will spring another upset this Saturday, they should be competitive here.
Alabama (-32.0) at South Florida- 3:30– Saban will have his troops out for blood after their shocking home loss to Texas last Saturday. It also certainly helps matters that they are matched up against a bad football team who has only beaten two FBS teams this entire decade!

Last Week’s Record: 7-3 (much better than week 1!)
