Now that the 2026 Winter Olympics have officially come to a close, it is time for me to update my ongoing list of the greatest moment of each olympics. In every olympics, no matter if its summer or winter, there is always one or two moments, stories, or events that leave an indelible mark on us as sports fans. While many of the events and sports blend together from year to year there is at least one “Olympic moment” that reminds us why we all love this sporting event so much, which is why I created this list below. This list was first partially published in 2018 when I made selections for the greatest moment of all olympics from 1960 onward. I have now expanded it to include moments from ever Summer and Winter Olympics since their modern-day inception in 1896. Below you will just find my Winter Olympic list updated through the Milano/Cortina games fo 2026. The moments in bold are the ones I have selected as the greatest olympic moment in each decade. Feel free to agree, disagree or discuss.
