Brad’s 2020 NFL Preview: Disappointment Picks

Now that I have thoroughly analyzed the hypothetical college football season, I have decided to engage in a similar analysis for the National Football League.  I have never made a set of pro football preseason predictions before, but given the uncertainty of the college season in 2020, I thought I would do some NFL analysis in case that is the only game in town this fall.  Much like my college preview, I have gone through and analyzed every NFL team’s regular season and postseason, as well as selected my disappointment and surprise teams and upsets to watch out for.

Without further ado, here are the teams I am predicting to disappoint this season.  These teams are ordered in the relative disparity between my picks and the experts average while also taking into account the significance of each pick.

Disappointment teams My Predictions: Experts Predictions:
1 Minnesota Vikings 4th in NFC North; 5-11 projected record; 26th in power rankings 3rd in NFC North; 9-7 projected record; 9th in power rankings
2 Tampa Bay 3rd in NFC South; 8-8 projected record; 15th in power rankings 2nd in NFC south; 10-6 projected record; 7th in power rankings
3 New York Giants 4th in NFC East; 3-13 projected record; 32nd in power rankings 3rd in NFC East; 6-10 projected record; 29th in power rankings
4 Houston Texans 3rd in AFC South; 8-8 projected record; 16th in power rankings 2nd in AFC South; 8-8 projected record; 16th in power rankings
5 NY Jets 4th in AFC South; 4-12 projected record; 29th in power rankings 4th in AFC South; 7-9 projected record; 26th in power rankings
6 Cleveland Browns 3rd in AFC North; 6-10 projected record; 24th in power rankings 3rd in AFC North; 9-7 projected record; 20th in power rankings
7 Philadelphia Eagles 2nd in NFC East; 8-8 projected record; 21st in power rankings 2nd in NFC East; 10-6 projected record; 12th in power rankings

As you can see from above, I am predicting the Minnesota Vikings to be my top disappointment team for 2020.  I believe that salary cap issues have depleted this roster enough that they are the worst team top to bottom in the NFC North, and this season will show that.  I see the Vikings finishing 4th in the NFC North with a 5-11 overall record!
