Now, that the calendar year is coming to a close it is time for me to update the variety of year by year lists that I keep regarding various sporting moments and events. The first such list that I am going to update based on 2022 in sports is my yearly selection of the greatest sports moments every year from 1951 to present. First of all, unlike the best and worst lists that I just published, this is an objective evaluation of sports moments and their significance in history. You will see some crossover between these two lists, but most of the moments listed below are different than my personally favorite moments each year. Also, I have included only “on the field” moments for this list.  For example, the Munich Massacre, OJ Simpson Trial, and Nancy Kerrigan-Tonya Harding scandal were certainly significant sports moments, but because they took place off the field of play, they are not included below. Without further ado, here is my list of greatest sports moments by year published on this blog for the first time since 2014. Please note that the bolded moments below are the greatest sports moment from each decade.
