Week 7 Football Upsets to Watch Out For

These are in order from least shocking to most shocking according to the current lines at the Caesars Sportsbook.

Oklahoma State (+3.0) vs. Kansas- 3:30– The Pokes pulled off a huge home upset last week over K-State, so I don’t see why they can’t do the same against a Kansas team who will likely be without its superstar quarterback, Jalon Daniels, for another week.
NC State (+3.5) at Duke- 8:00– The Wolfpack have definitely disappointed this season, but Duke could struggle mightily in their first game without star QB Riley Leonard.
Georgia Southern (+4.5) at James Madison- 12:00– At first glance, it seems like this line is about right or may even favor James Madison. However, if you look closer at the stats, you’ll see that Georgia Southern has a top ten pass offense nationally and James Madison is ranked 131 in pass defense. That is what you call a bad matchup for the Dukes.
Memphis (+5.0) vs. Tulane- (Fri) 7:00– These two teams, along with SMU, appear to be the class of the American in 2023, and when you have two evenly matched teams like this, the lean has to go to the home team.
Hawaii (+5.5) vs. San Diego State- 11:00– These are two teams headed in different directions as SDSU has taken a major step back in 2023, and Hawaii is starting to show some promise in Timmy Chang’s second year at helm. The Rainbow Warriors always upset a team or two off the mainland every year, and this seems like a great spot for one.
Northern Illinois (+6.5) vs. Ohio- 4:00– The Huskies 2-4 record doesn’t reflect how competitive this team has been this year, as NIU has lost three once score games in 2023 including a road contest to league juggernaut Toledo. They are clearly due a big victory, and I could see it coming this weekend in DeKalb.
Colorado State (+7.5) vs. Boise State- 9:45– The Broncos have looked sluggish to say the least in 2023, and they seem more capable of getting beat on the road by an up and coming Rams squad who almost knocked off Deion Sanders’ Buffaloes in week 2.
Pittsburgh (+7.5) vs. Louisville- 6:30– This is a perfect spot for an upset, as you have Louisville coming off a home win against Notre Dame, having to go on the road against a Pitt team that should be rejuvenated after a bye week and a change at quarterback.
Nevada (+9.5) vs. UNLV- 5:00– I have both “wolfpacks” on this list, as I think both NC State and Nevada may upset in-state rivals this Saturday. The old cliche of ” you can throw out the records when playing your arch rival” definitely applies here, and the Wolf Pack (of Nevada) have been very competitive in their last three games, including a one touchdown loss to Kansas.

Last week’s Upset Pick of the Week: Oklahoma State (+12.0) vs. Kansas State (huge week for me as 6 out of my 11 upset picks won outright!)
